Fishing An Extremely Shallow, Wild And Overgrown Brook For The First Time – Just To See A Fish Was Going To Be An Achievement, Never Mind Catch One

I do enjoy brook fishing and in this blog entry I visit a tiny waterway for the first time.

Not knowing what to expect, I talk through my approach in tackling these type of venues, via the video below.

As you can see, it was extremely shallow, and for much of it I actually walked the brook itself, with just the soles of my boots getting wet.

Did I catch though? Well, all is revealed below.

The tackle I fished with was as follows: Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon, leading to Ultima Virage 1lb 6oz fluorocarbon, joined by a loop-to-loop knot.

I nipped a size 4 shot on the line and the hook was a Drennan Super Specialist micro barbed size 18. Bait was a single red maggot.
