Although I was after perch as the target species, with pike in the water, then there’s always a chance of connecting with one of those.
As it happened, I didn’t catch the former, but I did bank a couple of the latter. They were both tiny ones as well.
That’s the advantage of fishing with a small lure, you won’t eliminate the bigger fish, but you’ll certainly pick up smaller ones.
When you’re only out for a short period, it’s about spreading your net as wide as possible, so to speak.
I’m not saying you can’t be a specimen hunter if you’ve only got half an hour to spare, just that, generally speaking, you’re going to need more time if you’re targeting big fish.
The tackle I fished with was as follows: Fox Rage Ultron drop shot rod, Fox Rage Ultron 2500 reel, 10lb Sunline braid on reel.
Fox Rage Illusion fluorocarbon 10lb 3oz (2 metres) joined to the braid with a small swivel.
Fox Rage micro jig head 1g size 4 hook. Berkley powerbait 2 inch rubber minnow. All knots (3) blood knots.
