Although the session on the middle Severn in the last blog entry didn’t go anywhere near to plan, nevertheless I stayed bankside to pursue the mini-species.
You can see how I got on via the video below. I caught approximately sixty minnows (I didn’t count), fourteen bleak, three perch and a bream.
You can see the latter in the video, and as well as being the first one I’ve ever caught from the venue in many years of fishing there, it’s also a decent enough fish.
I did change tack for the bream and two of the perch, going straight through with the line to a size 8 hook and a small shot.
The bulk of the fish were caught on the following though:
Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon, leading to Ultima Virage 1lb 6oz fluorocarbon, joined by a loop-to-loop knot.
The float was hand-made and the hook was a Drennan Super Specialist micro barbed size 18. Bait was a single red maggot.
If you’re interested in the rod and reel that I fished with, and would like to find out more, type Poachers Pocket in the search engine below.
