It was very much a case of groundhog day in the JD Cymru Premier, when Barry Town United visited The New Saints on MD26.
Last February, the corresponding fixture saw TNS race into a 2-0 lead within the first twenty minutes, only for the visitors to come back and snatch a point. This time round it was 2-0 with just eleven on the clock, but like last season, Barry turned the game round and it ended 2-2.
In 2018/2019, the equalising goal came in the seventh minute of added time at the end of the game, this time it was a couple of minutes beyond the ninety. Although on that occasion, it didn’t affect the outcome of the title race, as The New Saints went on to make it eight on the bounce, that may not be the case in 2019/2020.
With Connah’s Quay Nomads dropping points at Maes Tegid against Bala Town, The New Saints threw away the opportunity to close the gap at the top to two points. With a game still to come between the sides that would have given the reigning champions a lifeline.
As it is, the Nomads are now firmly in the driving seat, as we race towards the finishing line.
This was my 75th game of the season. As it was a home working game, it was another busy one for me personally. Prior to joining The New Saints last summer, the Wales U-21 international was with Swansea City and Fulham.
