During the course of a season, The New Saints FC is involved with several behind-closed-doors friendlies. They give the opportunity for players that haven’t featured much at that time to get some valuable pitch-minutes.
In addition, it is also a chance for the manager to cast his eye over some of the youngsters, as players from the U-19s always feature in these games.
This time round it was English League Two side, Salford City, who were the visitors to Park Hall, as they played their U-23s. Unfortunately, FA Wales rules mean that the club is not able to publish results from such games.
It’s a shame really because in our encounters with the likes of Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers – to name just a few – we have registered final scores that do the game in Wales proud.
Suffice it to say that this time round it was another good ninety minutes for the side, and everyone on the pitch performed well, against the mid-table side from tier four in England.
These games are one of the benefits that I have working in the world of football. It’s not a bad way to spend a few hours in the day during the week, in and around the match itself.
This was my 73rd game of the season and you can visit my football pages here.
