They’re all massive games now for The New Saints FC, as we enter the final furlong of the 2019/2020 JD Cymru Premier season. Going into the fixture at Maes Tegid against Bala Town, there was a slender lead of just one point at the top for the reigning champions over Connah’s Quay Nomads, who occupied second spot.
With the Nomads kicking off earlier than TNS FC, due to the latter being on television, a 4-0 victory at the Deeside Stadium against Caernarfon Town meant that The New Saints also needed to win, just to maintain status quo.
Although the visitors opened the scoring in the 5th minute, unfortunately for Aeron Edwards, his header from a free-kick ended up in his own net.
I was in the press box alongside S4C’s Sgorio and the benefit of that included access to much more information than normal. At one stage in the first half, The New Saints were enjoying 72% of possession.
That domination, although resulting in a penalty in the second period that saw Ryan Brobbel’s spot-kick level the score, didn’t lead ultimately to the three points.
It makes next week’s game at the Deeside against the aforementioned Nomads even more of a crucial one than it was previously. I’m looking forward to that very much indeed, as well as the media build-up during the week.
The game at Maes Tegid was my 70th of the season and you can view the list via my football pages.
