The New Saints Edge A Five-Goal Thriller At Bryn-y-Baal In The FAW Youth Cup. My 58th Welsh Ground.

Although there was no game for the first team this weekend, with the U-19s in action in the FAW Youth Cup it was the perfect opportunity to get along to their fixture and cover it for the club’s media platforms.

Drawn against Mynydd Isa Spartans, The New Saints, who made the final last season against Swansea City, were strong favourites to progress. However, the home side who play at the Argoed Sports & Social Club in Bryn-y-Baal, were far from fazed by the higher-level opposition.

In fact, it was Mynnyd Isa who took the lead, although goals from Lewis Bloor (no relation) and Regan Jones gave The New Saints a half-time lead.

Continuing to battle right to the end, it was 2-2 with 84 minutes on the clock. With a  Spartans player sent off in extra-time, it was TNS FC who eventually triumphed, with Roman Allen getting the goal with a header from a corner.

I certainly enjoyed the encounter and it was my 58th Welsh ground to date. Although it was a working game, I still include them in my groundhopping list.  Click images above to enlarge.
