Making The Most Of Every Opportunity. Lure Fishing On The Way To Work.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have no work-related commitments, be in a comfortable financial position and be able to go fishing when you want? Unfortunately, for the vast majority of us, that certainly isn’t the case.

However, what you can do is think outside the box and make the most of the time that is available. That’s what I do on a day when I’m working at The New Saints FC. I will sometimes take tackle and go after work, but mostly I will pack a lure rod in the morning, get up earlier than usual, and then do some fishing on the way.

On this occasion, I did a couple of very short sessions – one on the Staffs/Worcs Canal and the other on the Montgomery Canal. I didn’t even get an enquiry on the former but the latter came up trumps and rescued the day.

As you can see from the images, lure fishing is travelling light and I didn’t even need to get changed into fishing clothes. I stayed in my work gear, including shorts, which gets a few comments at this time of the year.

My angling routine is quite well-known and when I turn up at the stadium to cover training, I’ll often get players asking if I’ve been fishing on the way in and if I caught anything.
