I’ve been to a number of Beacon League games this season as part of my groundhopping adventures but nevertheless it was still a pleasant surprise when David Clinton invited me as his guest to the cup final that bears his name.
The game between Trysull Tigers and Bloxwich Rangers U21s was played at AFC Wulfrunians’ CKW Stadium. I have been there before so it wasn’t a new ground but I thoroughly enjoyed the encounter.
Both sides put in excellent performances and I was thinking to myself that it will take either a moment of madness or brilliance to separate the teams. It was the latter that broke the deadlock in the first half, as a well-executed goal from close-range was smashed home.
Chasing the game as the second-half wore on, it was a very late goal on the break that sealed it for Trysull.
Well done to both sides for an entertaining evening and for the committee of the Beacon League for such a well-organised affair.
