Didn’t We Have A Lovely Time, The Day We Went To Barry (1033)

Working in the wonderful world of football means that involvement is more than just ninety minutes on the match day itself. Ahead of The New Saints’ trip to Barry Town United in the JD Welsh Premier League there was much to do, including the pre-match press conference with our manager, Scott Ruscoe.

The image below gives an insight into how we do ours. When you see the final video there is just the manager and the advertising boards behind him but step back and we’re in a room that is used for other things that we utilise for the conference.

The team travelled to south Wales the day before and as always media went with them. That’s one of the unique things about the club, as media we get to stay with the players wherever they go. It makes sense because you get to cover what’s going on far better than if you make your own way to games.

Setting off on the Friday afternoon from Park Hall, the eventual destination was the Celtic International Hotel in Rhoose. Following food and watching the Wales v Denmark game on television it was back to the room and bed for the night.

With less travelling the next day it meant the players were fresh and ready to go. It was a big game for both sides, especially The New Saints. Going into the match in third place in the league and having lost four times already this season is unfamiliar territory for us.

Barry Town United have a tremendous home record in the league as well, having last tasted defeat in January 2018. Therefore, the 2-0 victory for The New Saints was especially welcome.

If we had lost then we would have been six points off the leaders, instead tonight we sit at the top of the pile. The coach journey home was a very happy one indeed.

Post-match interviews were conducted with Scott Ruscoe and Chris Marriott.
