From The North Wales Coast To The Rhondda Valley (1016)

This is my fifth season at The New Saints FC and although there have been defeats along the way, one competition that I have never tasted defeat in is the Welsh League Cup.

Currently sponsored by Nathaniel MG Cars, we have lifted the trophy four seasons on the bounce and following the victory at Llandudno FC, we are now in the semi-final this time round.

The game on the north Wales coast was a very open one to begin with and the home side certainly had their chances. However, with TNS breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute, a third goal just before the break killed off any hopes that The Seasiders had of getting back into the tie.

The final score of 5-0 was identical to the last round when we beat Prestatyn Town – also known as The Seasiders – at Bastion Gardens.

Although I was in north Wales to work, it’s still a game and a tick. Not a new one though, as I’ve been to Llandudno’s ground several times.

The following day was the draw for the semi-final and on a personal level I wanted Cambrian & Clydach Vale Boys & Girls Club away, as opposed to either Cardiff Metropolitan University FC or Connah’s Quay Nomads, who we have played many times before.

My wish was granted, and so at the end of November the team travels to the Rhondda Valley for a true David v Goliath tie. That will be a new ground tick and that’s why I wanted the draw.
