My 53rd game of the season was a 2nd v 1st clash in the JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL), as The New Saints FC hosted Connah’s Quay Nomads. Although I work full-time for the former, it’s more than just a job. I used to go and watch the team play before anyone at the club even knew me, never mind offered me a position.
Therefore, with a lot a stake in the game itself, I did feel a certain amount of nervousness as we approached kick-off. If you’re a football fan you will know exactly what I mean. However, come the final whistle it all worked out fine as we ended up 3-0 winners.
Don’t be deceived by the scoreline though, it was anything but an easy victory. In fact, TNS’ second goal came immediately after a golden opportunity for the visitors to equalise. Ultimately though it’s about the result, and going into the second half of Phase One in the JD WPL, The New Saints are back on top.
Prior to the game itself, I took some photographs in the dressing room for the club’s social media accounts and you can see them in the header. Then there was a pre-game headset selfie – always a selfie – as we prepared to go on air with TNS Radio bringing commentary.
Match days are busy from a media perspective and in with that are the post-game interviews. I always chat with the manager, Scott Ruscoe, and this time the chosen player was Aeron Edwards. He scored two of the three goals in the game and so was an obvious pick.
