For the second day on the bounce I’ve seen Wolverhampton Wanderers in action. Yesterday it was the U23s taking on The New Saints at Compton, while today I watched Wolves Women on the road at Sporting Khalsa Women.
I worked from home today and that’s always more relaxed in itself, even if it’s just avoiding the three hour round-trip to Park Hall. Today was especially so though and I managed an afternoon lie-down where my pet chicken, Star, joined me for a cuddle.
Later on I headed to Aspray Arena for the Ladies’ game. Wolves got off to a flying start, finding the net within seconds of the kick-off. That very quickly became two as they established an early cushion.
The eventual score was 10-2 to Wolves, which on the surface looks like a one-sided game. Of course it was, the score doesn’t lie, but Sporting Khalsa played some good football at times and they never gave up.
It was just that Wolves were superb. Tactically they were spot-on and combined with the talent on the pitch, they were really were a delight to watch. In fact the game overall was excellent and a real credit to women’s football.
It’s been a season or so since I was last at the stadium and I was very impressed with the facilities. It’s great to see a local team with vision both on and off the pitch and I will be watching developments much more closely from now on.
For now though, the moment belongs to Wolves.
