Having reached the Irn-Bru Cup semi-finals for the past two seasons, our hopes at The New Saints were high for the 2018/2019 season. Unfortunately though we didn’t get past the first hurdle this time.
With Queen’s Park at home, the odds were firmly in favour of the Welsh champions. However, it wasn’t to be and the penalty shoot-out following the 2-2 after 90 minutes went 4-2 in favour of the Scottish fourth tier side.
On a personal level, apart from the result itself, I enjoyed the day. Manchester City, Oldham Athletic and Bury fans will need no introduction to Steve Redmond. The father of our very own Danny, I interviewed him prior to kick-off.
I enjoy interviews and although they were tough for the interviewees especially – who wants to face the camera after a defeat – nevertheless they all came over really well. You can watch those below.
Not the result we wanted but my memorabilia collection received a very nice addition in the form of a signed Queen’s Park shirt. The highs and lows of the day.

I didn’t get away from football the next day either – not that I want to – as we had a football-themed service at Tipton Family Church. Already wearing our shirts, it was Denmark v Wales on TV in the afternoon for me and my wife, Debby.
