The last time I went to Cardiff City Stadium was to watch the Wales team in action. I remember looking across at the press box and thinking to myself that I would prefer to be in there. Well, it’s funny where life’s journey takes you because that’s exactly where I ended up this time round.
Although not the national side in action but the national champions, as The New Saints FC took on their Danish counterparts, FC Midtjylland. The competition was the UEFA Europa League and it was played in the capital due to stadium requirements. The further you progress the more boxes you have to tick.
Not only was I in the press box but also behind the scenes as well, including the home dressing room. Arriving at the ground early, I took advantage by not only having a selfie – always a selfie – but also doing a short video of the kits hanging up ready for the players.
The game itself ended 2-0 to the Danes, which although is an uphill struggle for The New Saints, at least it means that we are still in the tie. It was my 23rd game of the season so far and that’s before the Welsh Premier League has even kicked off. With 32 league fixtures alone to come, it will no doubt be another 100 plus game season again.
Following the match in Cardiff we had a press conference for both managers and after that I interviewed TNS’ boss, Scott Ruscoe, for TNS TV.
