IT’S BEEN A GREAT YEAR (WHITING) – Blog entry 650

As I write my last angling blog entry for the year it’s good that I can go out with one of my favourite sea fishing venues. This is the third time that Rhyl harbour and the Clwyd estuary has featured in the last two months. You can never get too much of a good thing, certainly as far as fishing is concerned. I didn’t catch any flounders this time but plenty of whiting ensured that I caught. Check out the video for session action.

On the subject of my blog, it’s all change for the New Year. I’m going to  develop the video side of things into more of a show, with regular features, which of course will mean it’s also longer. I know this will please many followers of the videos and hopefully it will bring new ones in as well. Even with the shorter offerings, I always hit three-figure views on the day of uploading (Saturday) so I’m hoping the new format will become even more popular.

It will mean the written side of things will be reduced as there will be too much duplication otherwise. Let’s see how it goes anyway and, as always, I appreciate feedback. You can connect with me via my Facebook page and / or Twitter and both links can be found here on this blog entry page.

Looking back it’s been a great year. If I had to go for one fish it would be the big perch that I caught from the Staffs/Worcs Canal earlier in 2015. Having put thousands of hours into the venue for the species, and having caught numerous 2s along the way, it was great to finally net a real big one. Apart from that though, it was a great year simply because I enjoyed my angling. Funnily enough it has also been enjoyable due to something that has actually taken away from my fishing.

My second season with The New Saints in the Welsh Premier League has really taken off. I present a match-day radio show (TNS Radio) with commentary and chat, interview manager and players post-game (TNS TV), present the weekly podcast and have a weekly column on the website and a page in the programme as well as being the club chaplain. It’s been an interesting ride so far and if you’d have told me a year ago I’d be commentating on four Champions League games I wouldn’t have believed you! See you next Saturday and enjoy the rest of the festivities. (Published December 26 2015)
