As far as I’m concerned fishing has to be about enjoyment, and that’s why I continued pursuing perch this week. They have been at the top of my agenda recently and that’s where they stayed. Basically you can’t have too much of a good thing. For the first session of the week I headed for the spot on the canal that has featured a number of times in my recent blogs. I’m extremely impressed at the quality of the fish it is producing and there is more mileage to come from it for sure.
I only caught two perch, but as you can see from the video, they were decent fish. I have located plenty of good fish spots on the canal but what is unusual about this one so far is that I’m not catching smaller perch. In fact just the one to date, the others have all been pose-size. The conditions progressively worsened during the session and by the time I banked the last fish it was a very wet ending to the day.
Just a few hours later I was back in the same spot and it was a totally different day. It was bright and clear and there was no wind at all, no wonder the British talk about the weather constantly. Fishing-wise I again caught two perch, both within minutes of each other. I almost didn’t get beyond the first couple of minutes of the session though as I had a message from The New Saints Chairman saying that he wanted to see me.
I explained I’d be a little longer than normal so he said it was fine and he’d see me on the team coach at the weekend. So I was able to continue my session. Oh and by the way, I knew why he was summoning me and it was all good. I wasn’t in trouble! My final session was in pretty horrendous conditions as the weather took a serious down-turn. I was happy just to bank the one fish, but like the others it was decent enough. (Published March 7 2015)
