After three consecutive blog entries spinning for perch, it was time to move on. Not that I had become bored or was losing interest, far from it. Just that, as an all-rounder, other species, methods and venues were beginning to pester me and stake their claim for for my attention. I fancied doing some carp fishing, so that’s what I set my stall out for. The first session was an overnighter on a large lake.
I didn’t catch my target species but I did land a tench before midnight, so at least I saw some action. It was caught on a 16mm strawberry jam boilie, fished on the bottom. A slow start to the week but I had the carp bug for sure and was looking forward to my next outing even as I was driving home. And that was to the same venue, that apart from going right through the night, was groundhog day.
With a day free for my next fishing session, I headed for a favourite venue of mine, Seggy Pool on the Kinver Freeliners ticket. It doesn’t contain big fish, well certainly not anything that is going to even remotely challenge my PB list, but I enjoy the aesthetics of the place. And that, for me, is a big tick-box as far as angling is concerned. The pool is part of the Dudmaston complex, just outside Bridgnorth.
Although there are no day tickets, Kinver has an open membership. All you need to do is join and you can fish there. However, the popularity of the club – and for good reason – means that there is currently a waiting list. All you need to do though is make contact and register yourself. And wait, of course. But when your name comes up, you won’t regret it.
Anyway, in just a few hours I banked 13 carp. So it was a case of third-time lucky in that it clicked after two struggling sessions but thirteen definitely wasn’t unlucky for me. Not that I believe in luck anyway but it all makes for an interesting heading. Above all though, even though the fish weren’t big, I enjoyed it all very much and that’s what counts.
